Best Wooden Bench Swings Reviewed

There is something incredibly calming about a porch swing, even if it’s hanging still. We’re not sure what it is, but you immediately feel as if the house you’re looking at is a home and the people who live in it are a close knit family who have figured out the secret to happiness – time spent together.
When we see a porch swing we think of the seasons and what we love about each; autumn is peace and quiet with a backdrop of deep red and gold; winter has us thinking about snuggling up with a warm cup of hot chocolate while we catch the last few rays of winter sun; and of course there’s spring and summer.
Laughter, conversation, friends, later afternoon naps or gently swinging as you read, listen to music or do absolutely nothing.
If you’ve decided you’d like to invest in porch swing that will last a long time and become a treasured family piece, then a wooden bench swing or porch swing will be perfect.
A wooden bench swing will never go out of style and will fit in with any décor that already exists.
Wood bench and porch swings are usually made out of a variety of woods but cedar is usually the most popular for outdoors.
The only thing with wooden swing chairs and benches is that they can be quite heavy, so before hanging it make sure your porch can handle the weight.
For the purposes of this review we’re going to look at three different wood swing chair styles, namely a wooden bench swing, a wicker porch swing and a cedar porch swing.
As much as they’re all made from wood , they are very different in terms of style, design and weight.
Best Wooden Bench Swing
Jack Post CG-05Z Country Garden Swing Seat
I don’t know what it is, other than the rave reviews on Amazon, but I love the look of this wooden bench swing.
There is something so homely about it, and takes me back to my childhood with my grandma trying to teach me to knit as we swayed backwards and forwards. I blamed my poor needle skills on the fact I was rocking but my gran didn’t fall for it.
The Jack Post wooden bench swing comfortably seats two people and is a comfortable and the delicate design is deceiving because it can support up to 500 lbs.
The wooden bench swing is 1005 self-assembly so it’s a good idea to make sure everything is where it should be and that all the nuts and bolts are tight.
The steel frames are painted in a bronze coated finish and the hardwood used is derived from fruit trees.
As much as this is a traditional wooden swing bench, the wood has a nice tone to it and the design is a combination of classic and modern.
Amazon gives it a sold 4.6 out of 5 stars.
Best Wicker Porch Swing
International Caravan Chelsea Wicker Resin Hanging Loveseat Patio Swing
Enjoy downtime with that someone special on the International Caravan Chelsea Wicker Porch swing.
Made from solid wicker, the warm-weather piece of furniture for your porch or yard is hand woven around a steel frame and can hold up to 400 pounds.
Strong, stable and sturdy, the wicker porch swing is treated to last the whole year round, and the resin wicker makes for easy maintenance and cleaning.
Amazon gives the International Caravan Chelsea Wicker porch swing a fabulous 4.5 out of 5 stars with raving reviews. The only niggle seems to be some people though it was smaller than advertised or what they expected.
Best Cedar Porch Swing
4' Natural Cedar Porch Swing, Amish Crafted - Includes Chain & Springs
As mentioned earlier cedar is considered to be a more expensive option when it comes to wooden bench swings or porch swings but if you look around and don’t make any impulsive purchases you won’t have to break your budget.
The 4’ cedar Porch Swing comfortably seats two people, depending on their size and it measures approx. 23" high x 50" wide x 27" deep.
The seat surface is approx. 18" deep x 46" wide. The traditional natural wood swing comes with comfortable contoured seating, as well as a chain and springs.
All that’s left to do for you is find a spot with a view, grab a companion and maybe a drink, do a quick assembly and in no time at all you’ll be watching the world rush by from your cedar porch swing.
The great thing about cedar wood is that it’s lightweight, stable and naturally resistant to splitting, cupping and and warping.
Should you be up for a little DIY you can stain your cedar porch swing or give it a clear finish. Of course, you can also leave it as is but it’s more prone to the elements when left and can turn a rather plain grey.
Amazon gives it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars and looking at the reviews they’re mostly positive.
A wooden bench swing is a great addition to any porch or backyard but if you need a little more convincing here goes.
They help relieve stress, boost circulation, and maybe even improve concentration. The back-and-forth motion of a porch swing may help lower stress, some medical professionals believe.
If you think about rocking chairs and how relaxed they can make you feel you’ll understand why a porch swing could assist in these areas.
A porch swing doesn’t have the same motion as a rocking chair, but the gentle motion seems to have the same ‘healing’ benefits. Relaxation and reduced stress go hand-in-hand, and are important health benefits that affect every other area of your life.
Also, and rather obviously, getting outside is a huge plus and the fresh air and sunlight contribute to a healthier state of mind, which contributes to a more healthy you.
